Airportman.id – Airport operator in western Indonesia, PT. Angkasa Pura II (AP II), is developing Airport Metaverse as part of a digital transformation that has been initiated since 2016.

Muhammad Awaluddin, President Director of AP II, said that to support operations and services at the 20 managed airports, DROID (Digitally Ready for Operational and Infrastructure Development) has been implemented.

DROID is realized through three mobile platforms developed, including the Travelin (Customer Experience/CX) application, iPerform (Operational Excellent/OX), and Pocket Airport Collaborative Decision Making (ACDM), which are used to strengthen collaboration between airport stakeholders (Ecosystem Exploration/EX).

He added that in 2022 AP II will strengthen digital transformation through the concept of New Experience through Technology Airport 4.0 (NEXT Airport 4.0) so that airports managed by AP II can continuously follow developments and adopt the latest technology (advance technology).

"Through NEXT Airport 4.0, we adopted the metaverse to introduce the Airport Metaverse which strengthens the application of the DROID Model to improve Operational Excellent, Customer Experience and Ecosystem Exploration," he said.

AP II has used metaverse in the company's internal activities, namely the Management Meeting for the first quarter of 2022 on January 31, 2022, which the board of directors attended.

3 Programs will be developed in the early stages of utilizing the metaverse, namely:

  • Airport Metaverse Learning. This program was developed for the training implementation to support airport operational reliability.

"Staff at 20 airports can directly participate in the training together through Airport Metaverse Learning. This is certainly an excellent breakthrough and innovation in optimizing the training program," said Muhammad Awaluddin.

  • Tourism Activity Center.  This program can be used by the wider community to know and feel the experience of all services and facilities at AP II airports digitally. In addition, users can get to know and feel the experience of visiting various tourist destinations in the area where AP II airport is located.

  • Augmented Airport Experience. This program can be used by airport visitors or passengers as a navigation tool via gadgets to get to various locations at the airport, for example, boarding lounges, restaurants, or certain tenants. "This technology helps airport visitors or airplane passengers to be able to more accurately predict the time needed to carry out various activities at AP II airport," explained Muhammad Awaluddin.

"Airport Metaverse is a form of adaptation of AP II to ensure the Airport Hospitality Experience is maintained and improved in the midst of global developments," concluded Muhammad Awaluddin.
